“Take Whatever You Want is a 14-song shimmering, jazz-influenced beauty she wrote, performed on and produced. […] The younger Estefan combines the slinky soulfulness of Erykah Badu, the righteousness of Lorde and the free jazz of Ornette Coleman.” – Associated Press
“Remarkably deep and sophisticated, the jazzy, funky music sounds like an artist’s fourth album rather than a first effort.” – The Miami Herald
Miami, FL – February 3, 2017 – Emily Estefan has released her debut album Take Whatever You Want, today via Alien Shrimp Records/Red Distribution. About Take Whatever You Want, Emily says, “I think the biggest thing I want to put across with the album is packed right into the title “Take Whatever You Want”. It’s a large collection of genres and themes and it’s kind of impossible to understand all of it or feel connected to all of it, but when you step back, even though it’s kind of a journey through a lot of different sounds, it’s definitely one energy put forth. I guess the biggest theme or message is that I’m not trying to fit any other mold. It’s the first expression where I didn’t confine myself to any barriers and you can take whatever you want from it and interpret it however you want. And just as much as it’s my music, when it’s let go, it’s completely yours as well and I think that’s what music is.”
Emily Estefan is Elvis Duran’s ‘Artist of The Month’ this month, culminating with a Today Show performance on Wednesday, February 8th. Her most recent single, “Ask Me To” premiered on PerezHilton.com in mid-January and “Reigns (every night),” premiered with SPIN in September. In 2015, her first original track and video “F#ck To Be,” celebrating her individuality and the importance of not conforming to society’s expectations, premiered on Entertainment Tonight followed by another original song, “I Just Want It To Be Over,” which was featured on the Today show.
Emily played her first-ever show last night in Miami to a sold-out crowd at the Gusman Hall as part of the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music’s 33rd Annual Festival Miami, and will be debuting her live show in NYC and LA with upcoming showcases next week at The Cutting Room and Hotel Café, respectively, as well as an intimate fan-event at the YouTube space in NYC. Looking ahead, Emily’s live show will hit SXSW ’17 in March.
Growing up surrounded by music, Emily naturally developed a deep passion for the craft at a very young age. That passion grew as she did. Emily founded Alien Shrimp Records, after earning a degree in contemporary writing and production from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, in the hopes of cultivating a haven where emerging artists – herself included – can truly express themselves creatively.
